Skype is a software application that allows users to make phone calls using voice over Internet Protocol. Skype is a peer-to-peer telephone communication network that was created by the Swedish Niklas Zenström and the Danish Janus Ferris. The two previously collaborated on a file-sharing network called Kazaa. By the end of 2009, Skype had more than 500 million users. The company supporting this network, called Skype Group, was bought by eBay in 2005, and in 2011, Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 billion. The headquarters of this company is located in Luxembourg and it has branches in London, Paris, Tallinn and Prague. Privacy in Skype: New information released by the great whistleblower, Edward Snowden, shows that Microsoft is providing the NSA (National Security Agency) in bulk with the video and audio data that pass through the Skype platform. Considering that Skype has already been used by the Chinese government to spy on the affairs of the Chinese people, it can be said that it has become one of the biggest enemies of privacy in the world.
